With Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream finally coming out, I feel more nostalgic than ever about this series.
I will certanly miss this Island and their residents, but I guess the time has come. I doubt it would! But it unfortunately has...

I wrote this little "blog" (if you can even call it that) to express how I'm feeling and share some insight about the demo.

✮ Mods

List of mods that I use on my save. In my opinion, these 4 mods are essential. How can anyone play this game without the gay mod? idkI started playing on my 3DS, but more often I've been using Azahar Emulator. My game version is USA, and the mods work on both the 3DS and the Emulator. I also highly recommend the Save Editor.
If you have curiosity on how to mod your game, there are really good tutorials out there.

Tomodachi Life is the game I’ve always dreamed of.For as long as I can remember, I wanted a game where I could watch my original characters living together in a small town, and essentially writing their own stories without needing me to make choices for them. The closest I ever got to that idea was with The Sims 4. I tried putting all my characters in the same neighborhood, hoping they would naturally become friends on their own. But if you’ve ever played TS4, you probably know it’s not that simple. So my little experiment ended in disappointment and, eventually, the realization that a game like the one I had imagined simply couldn't exist. After all, who would want to watch their characters instead of controlling them in a life simulator? And that’s when I discovered Tomodachi Life. The moment I learned about the game’s concept, I became instantly obsessed. Luckily, I already had a Nintendo 3DS, a birthday gift from my mom when I was younger (an awesome present, I might add), but I had barely used it. I was too young to really understand how buying games worked, and I didn’t even realize it was something I could do. So it mostly stayed forgotten, with the same three games I owned… all in Japanese (which I didn’t understand at all).

But then, almost a decade later, there I was. For the first time, I had a real reason to take that dusty 3DS out of its box. In a single day, I modded it and downloaded a bunch of games I never had the chance to play before, and among them was Tomodachi Life.Honestly, I could write an entire essay just praising the 3DS. It’s easily one of the best consoles ever made, probably second only to the PlayStation 2. Seriously, I played so many games on that handheld and took it with me everywhere. I’ve used it way more than I’ve ever used my Nintendo Switch. But anyway, I shouldn’t get ahead of myself. After all, this is about my experience with Tomodachi Life.

In November 2024, after all the anticipation and a few hours of trying to get my 3DS to work properly, I finally created Balacobaco Island. By the way, I started playing at the perfect time. I had just gotten out of a two-year relationship, so I really needed something to keep my mind busy. The first Mii I created was myself (a bit egocentric, I know), along with two original characters made by me and my best friend. Surprisingly, the island now has 59 residents, including my characters, friends, and family (you can click here to see the archive). After that, I kind of fell into a spiral, consuming more and more content on YouTube about the games I used to play when I was younger. And yeah, I've been obsessed with Miis for as long as I can remember, or at least since I got my Wii when I was around five years old. The game I played the most definitely was Wii Sports... So you can probably imagine that it wasn’t hard at all for me to get attached to the Miis I created in Tomodachi Life.Anyways, I recently came across a trend on r/mii where people compare how their Miis have evolved over time, so I figured I’d join in and share mine here:

With that said… wow. I still can’t believe this game is real, and that in less than two weeks, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream will finally be here to stay. This also feels like a farewell to my 3DS island. Of course, I’ll come back from time to time to check on my Miis, but this save won’t be my priority anymore, and that’s fine. I’m grateful for everything the first game had to offer. I feel like I’ve left my island in a place I’m truly satisfied with, with relationships I became deeply invested in, and their children (45 children born btw) who grew up so fast that some of them already have kids of their own. Wow… Tomodachi Life really is something special, I love it so much, I can't believe LTD is real.

After playing the demo, I experienced exactly what I was hoping for. I got hooked instantly and just wanted more, even from the small amount of interactions Nintendo let us see. The Miis have much more personality now with their quirks, and I genuinely enjoy just watching them interact and run around. They're so silly. The fact that the island resident limit has been reduced to 70 is something that bothers me a bit. I definitely won’t have enough space to include every single Mii I want on a single island, but that’s fine. Being able to have multiple save files on the Switch makes it easier to deal with (ACNH could never). And now here I am, writing this without really knowing how to contain my excitement. Every day that passes brings us closer to living the dream, and I couldn’t be more excited. I ended up dropping Animal Crossing: New Horizons pretty early on, since I didn’t get as attached to it. But after playing this demo, I’m sure I won’t be able to put this game down anytime soon. I’m also excited to create a new website to document my experience playing it.With that said, there probably won’t be any more updates here. I created this website mostly to understand the limitations of Carrd, and I’m really happy with what I’ve done here. Still, I’ll update the main page if I eventually create a new site for Living the Dream.Thank you for taking a bit of your time to read this!
